How to search better while using Google

  • Quotation Marks
    • Use quotation in your search terms and search exactly for the word you want
    • example "Best Android Apps 2022" means exactly this
  • Dashes
    • If you want to exclude a term from your search, then include a hyphen before that word
    • example: Best Mobile Apps -Android
      • Then the result will not provide mobile phones which are android
  • Tilde
    • Use Tilde when you also want its synonym to appear in the result
    • example  "music~classes"
      • This will search for music classes, lessons, coaching etc
  • Site
    • Use this to search within a specific website only
      • example  site:mkbhd.com
  • Vertical Bar
    • Will search websites that have one/two/all of the terms mentioned
      • example:  Hello world | Java Program
  • Two Periods
    • When you want to search within a range
      • movies 1950..1980
  • Image Size
    • Search images of a particular size
      • candle imagesize: 500px*500px
  • wildcard
    • Asterisk works as a wild card within searches
      • *oriented programming
  • Filetype
    • Search results containing particular file type such as PDF, .PPT, .Doc
      • Who Moved My Cheese? Filetype:PDF
  • Intitle
    • Find text within a page's URL, body or title
      • Programming language Intitle:C
  • Define
    • If you  are looking for a word definition
      • define: pizza
  • Search
    • To Search within a website
      • web development search: freecodecamp.com
  • OR
    • To search for one or another term 
      • Treehugger OR Environmentalist
  • -site
    • Exclude the site
