  1. Maenza, Italy: Italy's $1 home bonanza began in the village of Gangi in 2011. With 5800 towns with fewer than 5000 residents, 2300 of which are totally abandoned. Italy is at risk of losing its historic rural hamlet culture. Starting with Gangi, small remote villages across the country began selling abandoned homes for $1 to try to bolster their population. In 2021, Maenza begun the $1 home craze and is the nearest in proximity to Rome. 
  2. Pipestone, Canada: The rural municipality of Pipestone in Manitoba, Canada is selling plots of land for $10 for residential use. Interested buyers pay $1000 deposit and sign an offer agreement. When they build a home they get a refund of $900. It all began in New Brunswick when a single couple began giving away chunks of their 130 acre plot of land to create a new town around their home.
  3. The Scottish Islands: Scotland is home to 1000 offshore islands whose communities are a crucial part of Scottish culture and history. But, the population of these countries are dwindling. To reinvigorate these isolated towns and hamlets the government launched the national island plan in 2019 and the initiative has survived both Brexit and the pandemic. Scottish authorities launched a bond fund to give 50000 Pounds (thats around 65000USD) to upto 100 households who relocate to qualifying islands through 2026
  4. Mankato, Kansas: Mankato is a town of 900 people located in a country of around 3000. You can flock there for free land like the homesteaders of old. The town is giving away more than 24 lots to people who agree to build homes on those lots within 6 months. All lots are close to hospital, school, steakhouse and motels.
  5. West Virginia: Known for its rugged beauty and mountain wilderness. West Virginia is suffering from acute population decline. The government has launched Ascend West Virginia, a program designed to lure new residents and stop the outward exodus. The initiative offers 20000 USD to anyone willing to pull up stakes and relocate to the mountain state. The first pary of the bounty is a 12000 cash payment with no strings attached. 
  6. Tulsa, Oklahoma: The Tulsa Program incentivizes telecommuters with out-of-state full time remote employment to relocate to Oklahoma. The city is giving 10000 USD to participants who purchase home in Tulsa. The money is awarded as a lump sum and in the city where the median home price is just over 205,000/- 
  7. Vermont: The state govt of Vermont is offering two different incentives to lure new residents to the heart of New England. The New Relocation Worker Grant is for new residents who are filling a vacancy with a Vermont employer. This is for new arrivals who work remotely for an employer located out of the state. There is 7500 USD for grabs who come to work and relocate here
